Australian Citizenship Test
How do you book the Australian citizenship test?
Quick answer
The Australian citizenship test is arranged through the Department of Home Affairs as part of your citizenship application. After lodging your application, you will be invited to attend a test and a citizenship interview. Check https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au for current requirements.
Part of the citizenship application
Unlike some overseas tests, the Australian citizenship test is not booked independently. It is a step in the citizenship by conferral application process managed by the Department of Home Affairs. After you lodge an application and it passes eligibility checks, the Department will contact you to schedule a test appointment.
Who needs to sit the test
Citizens by conferral aged 18 to 59 must pass the citizenship test as part of the application. People under 18 or aged 60 and over are generally exempt. Those with a permanent or enduring physical or mental incapacity may also be exempt — confirm your situation on the Department of Home Affairs website at https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au.
Prepare before your appointment
The test is 20 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes based on "Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond". The best time to practise is while your application is being processed, so you are fully ready when the appointment invitation arrives.
This is general guidance from an independent study app, not official advice. Always confirm current requirements and fees on the Department of Home Affairs website.
