Australian values explained
Chapter 4 of "Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond" covers the values all Australians share. The citizenship test has a special rule: every values question must be answered correctly in addition to the 75% overall pass mark.
Key facts to remember
- ◆ Respect for the equal worth, dignity and freedom of the individual.
- ◆ Freedom of speech allows people to express their views peacefully and be heard.
- ◆ Freedom of religion means you may follow any faith or none, without fear.
- ◆ The rule of law means everyone — including government — must obey the law.
- ◆ Parliamentary democracy gives all eligible Australians the right and responsibility to vote.
All Australian-values questions on the citizenship test must be answered correctly — this is a requirement separate from the 75% overall pass mark.
