Australian Citizenship Test
What are the Australian-values questions on the citizenship test?
Quick answer
The Australian citizenship test includes questions about Australian values from Chapter 4 of the official handbook. ALL of these values questions must be answered correctly — this is a separate requirement on top of the 75% overall pass mark.
The dual pass requirement
To pass the Australian citizenship test you must meet two conditions: score at least 75% overall (15 of 20 questions) AND answer every Australian-values question correctly. Failing any values question is an automatic fail regardless of your total score. This makes Chapter 4 the most critical part of your preparation.
What the values questions cover
Australian-values questions are drawn from Chapter 4 of "Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond". They test your understanding of values such as respect, freedom, fairness, equality and compassion — and what they mean in everyday life in Australia. These are not trick questions; they test genuine understanding of the values all Australians are expected to share.
How to practise
Practise Chapter 4 questions specifically until you can answer every values question confidently. A dedicated values-chapter practice session alongside full mock tests is the most reliable way to make sure you never lose marks on this requirement.
